Latvia Brace for Continued Hot Weather, Thundershowers
Expect Disruptive Storms Through Next Week
Residents across Latvia are advised to prepare for persistent hot weather accompanied by thundershowers, a pattern expected to continue at least until early next week. The volatile conditions bring a risk of localized flooding and intermittent sunshine.
Weekend Forecast: Rain, Thunder, and Sun
Over the weekend, many areas throughout all regions of Latvia will experience short-lived downpours, thunderstorms, and potentially very heavy rainfall. This can lead to localized flooding in affected areas. Despite the stormy outlook, patches of clear skies will allow for sunny spells across the country.
Light, shifting winds are anticipated, contributing to the formation of fog during nighttime and early morning hours in numerous locations.
Daytime temperatures will remain steady, with overnight lows ranging from 13 to 18 degrees Celsius, while afternoon highs will reach between 22 and 27 degrees Celsius.
Looking Ahead: Little Relief from Storms
The start of the new week is unlikely to bring significant weather changes. While there’s a possibility of hotter and drier periods emerging during the week, thunderstorms are still forecast. Sustained dry weather remains an unlikely prospect for the coming days.
The national meteorological service recently highlighted that such persistent thundershower patterns can significantly impact agricultural yields. For example, the European Environment Agency reported that in 2023, extreme weather events across Europe led to an estimated €50 billion in damages, with heavy rainfall contributing significantly (EEA 2023).
