Honor Magic V6 Global Launch: 7-Year OS Updates and Thin Foldable Design
Honor Technologies has officially launched the Magic V6 foldable smartphone in the global market, with the device guaranteed to receive operating system updates for seven years, according to Bisnis Tekno. The company confirmed the policy during a press briefing in Beijing, marking a significant shift in its post-2020 strategy following its separation from Huawei.
The Magic V6 features a foldable design that is as thin as traditional smartphones, as reported by Kompas.com. The device measures 8.9 millimeters when closed, surpassing competitors like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5, which has a thickness of 12.6 millimeters in its closed state. The phone uses a “self-developed ultra-thin hinge mechanism,” according to Telset.id, which the company claims reduces wear and tear during repeated folding.
Pre-orders for the Magic V6 have begun in Malaysia, with the device set to debut globally in June 2026, as disclosed by infodigital.co.id. The rollout follows a staggered release strategy, with Southeast Asia and Europe prioritized in the initial phase. The company’s regional head for Southeast Asia, Tan Sri Mohd Khairi Abdul Rahman, stated in a press release that the device is “designed to compete with premium foldables while maintaining affordability.”
The smartphone’s battery capacity of 5,000 mAh, reported by Telset.id, exceeds the 4,400 mAh of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5. Honor’s chief technology officer, Li Wei, explained during a live stream that the battery uses “a new graphene-based thermal management system” to prevent overheating during extended use. The device also supports 66-watt wired charging, according to the same source.
In Southeast Asia, the Magic V6 is priced at 29.5 million Indonesian rupiah (approximately $2,000), as stated by PontianakPost. This places it in the mid-premium segment, below the $1,500 price point of the iPhone 15 Pro Max but above the $1,200 starting price of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5. The device will be available through major retailers like Shopee and Lazada, with a 12-month warranty covering hinge-related issues.
The global launch coincides with Honor’s broader push to establish itself as an independent brand. Since its separation from Huawei in 2020, the company has secured partnerships with Google and Qualcomm to enhance its software and hardware ecosystems. A spokesperson for Honor’s European division confirmed that the Magic V6 will run Android 14 out of the box, with upgrade support through 2030.
The device’s release has drawn comparisons to the Xiaomi Mix Fold 2, which also offers a seven-year OS update policy. However, Honor’s focus on battery life and hinge durability appears to differentiate it in a crowded market. Analysts at Counterpoint Research noted that “the Magic V6’s pricing and specifications position it to challenge both Chinese and South Korean competitors in the foldable segment.”
