Hong Kong Homeowner Fined $51,280 for Illegal Building Works

Hong Kong’s Redhill Peninsula has seen ‍another ⁤resident penalized for unauthorized building work, bringing the total fines levied in ​connection with illegal structures at the luxury estate to over HK$400,000 (US$51,280).

The​ Buildings Department announced Monday that Eastern Court issued the latest round of fines, following the discovery two years ago of widespread unauthorized construction within the exclusive Southern district development.

The homeowner of a detached house pleaded guilty on Thursday and was fined HK$110,000. The contractor involved in the work, along with its authorized signatory, were each fined HK$110,000 and HK$70,000 respectively.

Separately, the contractor and its authorized signatory were‍ also convicted ⁢of illegal building work at a diffrent ‌property within Redhill Peninsula ​and received additional fines of ‌HK$70,000 and HK$45,000, respectively.

Legal action is still underway against a second homeowner, according to the department.

“Investigations‍ by the [department] found that the owners of the two detached houses, the [contractor] ⁤ and its [authorized signatory] had knowingly carried out the [unauthorised building works] without the prior approval and consent ⁤of the [department],” the department stated.
