Travelers Advance to Second Round, Upset Rocket in First-Round Showdown
The Travelers secured their spot in the second round of the playoffs Tuesday evening, defeating the Saint-Eustache Bison in a decisive fifth game. The victory sets up a highly anticipated matchup against the Jonquiérois.
The Travelers’ advancement marks the second first-round upset, as they overcame a regular-season deficit of seven wins against their opponents, finishing the season with a 13-28 record.
Elsewhere in the first round, the Trois-rivières Eagles (11-30) stunned the laval Pirates (24-17) in four games and will now face the regular season champions, the Royal de Repentigny. The Montreal Orioles also moved on,defeating the Alouettes de Charlesbourg and earning a series against the Longueuil dukes. The Granby Warriors completed a sweep of the LaSalle Cards and will battle the Québec Diamants.The Travelers won both regular-season contests against their upcoming opponent, the Rocket, in early July, both games taking place on the road.
The schedule for the Travelers-Rocket series was still pending as of Tuesday evening, but a thursday start is likely. The first game is expected to be played in front of a capacity crowd at the Richard-desmeules stadium.
