historia Inc. to release Faaast Penguin FPX: Badlands World on October 15
Up to 40 competing penguins will collide, slide, and race across hazardous terrain when free-to-play survival action racing game Faaast Penguin expands its roster of environments on October 15 with the release of a new world titled “FPX: Badlands,” game developer historia Inc. announced.
Rugged Desert Elimination
The upcoming update introduces a rugged desert environment to the game. In Faaast Penguin, players navigate elimination-style races spanning four distinct courses, utilizing shortcuts, physical bumps, and aerial mechanics to secure the lead. The game supports solo play up to four players locally, while custom online matches accommodate the full 40-player capacity without requiring a Nintendo Switch Online or PlayStation Plus subscription.

Sand Bands Settlement Features Scarce Resources
The new “FPX: Badlands” arena centers on “Sand Bands,” a frontier settlement where water and canned sardines serve as scarce and valuable commodities. According to the developer’s world-building details, ruthless competitors head into the surrounding wilderness daily to secure these resources under the watch of a rough faction known as the “Mad Riders.”
The faction hosts high-stakes, uninhibited races where victors claim water and canned sardines to survive. Navigation through the Badlands involves distinct mechanics and environmental hazards, including the “Sand Bands Entrance,” the combat-heavy “Brutal Arena,” the massive-bug-infested “Giant Bug Road,” and the hazardous “Runaway Factory.” Racers must also contend with “Oil Barrel Rats”—gulls carrying volatile switches on their backs that trigger explosions when struck by attacks.
New Outfits Introduce Mad Riders Lore Figures
The seasonal update brings new outfits inspired by the Badlands aesthetic alongside two notable figures associated with the region’s lore. The Mad Riders feature a primary ace and top racer who grew up in Sand Bands after separating from family during childhood, recognizable by an old pocket watch pendant he wears at his waist. Alongside him is Cletch, a skilled courier focused entirely on delivering cargo safely rather than winning races, who enters the competition due to an active delivery contract. historia Inc. noted that these character backgrounds serve as world-building elements rather than active narrative campaign missions within the software.
Aerial Tricks Boost Penguin Base Speed
To cross the new terrain, players can use the stunt mechanics familiar from "FPX: Snowboarding." Executing aerial tricks raises a live "Run Rank" meter, which subsequently boosts the penguin's base speed up to the maximum X tier based on accumulated stunt scores.
Faaast Penguin is currently available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC platforms via Steam and the Epic Games Store.
