Martín Bermúdez, a 47-year-old Salvadoran demonstrator outside the debate theater, told AFP that he and others came to the United States seeking freedom, opportunity, and security, viewing progressive leftist politics as a profound disrespect to populations that have suffered under socialist governments in Cuba, Venezuela, and Nicaragua.
