‘Do Not Eat’ Warning: Urgent Recall issued for Popular sauce Sold in Irish Supermarkets
An urgent product recall has been issued for a popular sauce sold in Irish supermarkets due to the potential presence of undeclared peanuts. The food Safety Authority of ireland (FSAI) has warned consumers not to consume the affected batches of schmidt’s Kitchen Peri peri Sauce, as even small amounts of peanuts can trigger severe allergic reactions.
Peanut allergy is a significant health concern, notably in Ireland where it is one of the most common food allergies in childhood, persisting in 80% of cases. Symptoms of a peanut allergy can appear rapidly after consumption and range from mild skin reactions to life-threatening anaphylaxis.
The FSAI notice details the specific batches affected and advises anyone with a peanut allergy or intolerance to avoid consuming the product and return it to the point of purchase for a full refund.
According to the Mayo Clinic,symptoms of a peanut allergy can include:
* Skin reactions,such as hives,redness or swelling.
* Itching or tingling in or around the mouth and throat.
* Digestive problems, such as diarrhea, stomach cramps, nausea or vomiting.
* Tightening of the throat.
* Shortness of breath or wheezing.
* Runny nose
Severe allergic reactions, known as anaphylaxis, can manifest as:
* Constriction of airways.
* Swelling of the lips, tongue and throat, making breathing arduous.
* A severe drop in blood pressure (shock).
* Rapid pulse.
* Dizziness, lightheadedness or loss of consciousness.
