Tarleton State Volleyball Defeats Sam Houston in Thrilling Islander Classic Match
CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – Tarleton State Volleyball secured a hard-fought victory over Sam Houston, winning in four sets (25-23, 25-11, 23-25, 15-11) at the Islander Classic on saturday. The win caps a successful weekend for the Texans, who demonstrated resilience and strong teamwork throughout the tournament.
The match saw contributions from across the tarleton State roster. Madison Frank and Lara led the offensive charge with key kills in both the frist and final sets,while Burke and Peterson anchored the defense with crucial blocks.Nguyen delivered a service ace too extend a Texans advantage, and later assisted Rice-Lockett for the set-winning kill in the first set.In the decisive final set, Burke added a clutch kill and Frank applied pressure at the net, ultimately closing out the match with Burke’s final point.
Tarleton State overcame a challenging third set where Sam Houston fought back to win 25-23. Though, the Texans responded with determination, showcasing their ability to maintain composure under pressure.
Following the tournament, both Madison Frank and Megan Hodges were recognized for their outstanding performances, earning spots on the Islander Classic All-Tournament team. Frank totaled 21 kills and seven blocks over the weekend, while Hodges contributed 38 assists and 13 digs.
The Texans will continue their season on Tuesday, facing Stephen F. Austin at Shelton Gym in Nacogdoches, Texas, at 6 p.m.
