Family of Teen Who Died on Global Epic Universe Ride Hires Ben Crump
ORLANDO, FL – The family of a 17-year-old who died after experiencing a medical emergency on the Stardust Racers roller coaster at Universal Epic Universe has retained civil rights attorney Ben Crump. The teen, identified as Jeremy Yoder, passed away on May 23, 2025, shortly after riding the newly opened attraction.
The hiring of Crump signals the family’s intent to pursue legal action, raising questions about the safety protocols and emergency response procedures at the park. Universal Orlando Resort has stated it is indeed cooperating with the ongoing investigation, but details surrounding the incident remain scarce. The Stardust Racers ride, a dual-launch coaster reaching speeds up to 62 miles per hour, remains closed as of Tuesday, according to the Universal app.
Yoder’s family released a statement through Crump’s office, expressing their grief and demanding accountability. “We are devastated by the loss of our son, Jeremy. We need answers about what happened and why. We intend to get to the bottom of this and ensure that no other family has to endure this kind of pain,” the statement read.
Universal Orlando Resort previously issued a statement Thursday saying it was “fully committed to cooperating” with the investigation. The park officially opened the Epic Universe portion, including Celestial Park where Stardust Racers is located, on May 22, 2025.
