Lincoln City FC Unveils Unique Kit Celebrating Local Mathematician, Plans Customary Hospitality for Chelsea
Lincoln City is blending cutting-edge design with a deeply rooted sense of place as they prepare to host Chelsea, showcasing a kit honoring local innovator George Boole and promising a classic football welcome despite modern player protocols. The Imps’ red-and-white striped home shirts feature binary code spelling out “We Are Imps,” a tribute to Boole, the pioneering mathematician born in Lincoln in 1815.
The initiative reflects Lincoln CityS broader strategy of celebrating its community and heritage, even as the club competes against Premier League giants. Beyond the kit, the club’s third kit includes clothing tags embedded with seeds from the common dog-violet, Lincolnshire’s county flower, encouraging fans to connect with the local habitat. This approach comes as the team prepares to face Chelsea, where the usual post-match shirt swap tradition has been altered by hygiene protocols.
“We take things seriously, but we don’t take ourselves too seriously. We love the ability to really celebrate our community,” says Liam Futers of Lincoln City. Even with those altered traditions, players still value the mementos.Luton Town defender Dan Bradley recounted receiving an N’Golo Kanté shirt, albeit a small size, after a recent match. “I definitely won’t ever wear it because it’s one of the smallest shirts I’ve ever seen. but it’s a good one for my collection,” Bradley said.
the club’s commitment to honoring its past extends to a personal touch for its players. Bradley, a former Hull City fan, prioritizes swapping shirts with former teammates, boasting a collection including jerseys from Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne rooney, lionel Messi, Daniel Sturridge, and Divock Origi. “I’ve got a room in my house with a few shirts on the wall, but at the moment it is indeed only my shirts so when people come in they only talk about me and not other players,” he joked, adding with a smile, “Hopefully” that will remain the case on Tuesday.
