Bulgarian Firm Helios Yachts Launches First Production Electric Yacht, Omega 7.2
Cannes,France – Helios Yachts,a Bulgarian company,has unveiled its first production electric yacht,the Omega 7.2, at the European Yacht and Innovation Exhibition in Cannes. The fully electric Day Cruiser represents a significant step for the Bulgarian marine industry and signals growing momentum for electric boating.
Co-founder and Executive Director Dragomir Enchev told Bloomberg TV the Omega 7.2 was recognized as an innovation leader at the event, being selected as one of only 40 companies out of 740 participants for the “Innovation route.” The yacht also received a “green spot” designation, highlighting its contribution to sustainable marine technology.
Helios Yachts is already experiencing strong demand for the Omega 7.2.Production is underway with five yachts completed, and the company plans to produce 10 boats by the end of 2025, scaling up to 15 per month in 2026. The first yacht has been sold,with reservations for next year already increasing,according to Enchev.
The yacht is designed and manufactured at the company’s base in Burgas, Bulgaria, a location Enchev describes as ideal for production.Helios Yachts has spent four years developing the Omega 7.2, integrating proprietary smart systems, controllers, software, and batteries into the design from the outset.
The Omega 7.2 utilizes lightweight composite materials, reinforced with a unique ”bee pie” structure for added strength. Its electric drive system – including the motor, batteries, controller, and solar panels – is sourced from European manufacturers. Helios Yachts has also developed its own yacht management software platform, offering complete digital control via onboard displays and smartphone integration.
A key feature of the Omega 7.2 is its battery system, employing Blade Cell technology and lithium-iron phosphate chemistry, designed for enhanced safety. Helios Yachts is also certified to supply navigation displays to major brands within the marine industry.
The base model of the Omega 7.2 is priced at €50,000, with higher-specification versions reaching €73,000.
