Hedge Knight Comics Surge in Popularity After HBO’s Knight of the Seven Kingdoms

The comic book adaptations of George R.R. Martin’s tales of Dunk and Egg are experiencing a surge in popularity, coinciding with the premiere of HBO’s A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. As of February 11, 2026, the first adaptation, The Hedge Knight, has climbed to #5 on Amazon’s Best Sellers list for comics and graphic novels, according to reports from IGN.

The six-issue comic, written by Ben Avery and illustrated by Mike S. Miller, adapts Martin’s first novella of the same name. It currently sells for $8 digitally and $17-$18 in physical format. The second adaptation, The Sworn Sword, is also performing well, holding the #10 position on Amazon’s list. The Mystery Knight, adapting the 2010 novella, is currently outside the top 100 bestsellers.

The renewed interest in the comics follows the January premiere of the HBO series, which is based on the same Dunk and Egg stories. IGN reported that The Hedge Knight adaptation briefly reached #3 on Amazon’s list, surpassing the first volume of Scott Snyder and Nick Dragotta’s Absolute Batman before settling at its current position.

Notably, customer reviews for both Hedge Knight and Sworn Sword have largely ceased since the television series began airing, with the most recent review for Hedge Knight dating back to January 5, 2026 – two weeks prior to the demonstrate’s debut.

George R.R. Martin has outlined twelve potential future stories for the Dunk and Egg series, should HBO renew A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms for more than three seasons, IGN reported. This suggests a long-term vision for the adaptation, contingent on the show’s success.

The popularity of the series has also prompted discussion regarding creative choices, including a scene involving excrement. Martin himself expressed uncertainty about the necessity of the scene, as reported by IGN, even as the showrunner defended it as not intended to be disrespectful to the original Game of Thrones series.

Martin has stated there is no contingency plan for completing his novel Winds of Winter should he pass away before finishing it, indicating the series would remain unfinished, according to IGN.
