Heavy Traffic Expected at Singapore-Malaysia Checkpoints for Long Weekend Break
Travelers at the Woodlands Checkpoint experienced delays of up to three hours as crowds surged through the border ahead of the Good Friday and Qing Ming holiday break.
The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) had previously warned that very heavy traffic was expected at land checkpoints during the long weekend, anticipating a significant increase in travel volume across the Singapore-Malaysia border.
By April 4, continued delays were reported at the Woodlands Checkpoint. These disruptions coincided with reports that Malaysia had tightened its border checks, contributing to the congestion encountered by commuters.
The heavy traffic was expected to impact both the Woodlands and Tuas checkpoints as the overlapping holiday periods of Qing Ming and Good Friday drove higher-than-normal transit levels.
These developments follow indications that Malaysia is adjusting its land border control measures to align with tighter security checks implemented by Singapore.
