Goiânia Residents Gain Access too Free Health Services at HGG‘s “Health in the Square” Event
Goiânia, brazil – The Alberto Rassi State Hospital (HGG) is hosting a free public health initiative today, October 9th, focused on obesity prevention. the “Health in the Square” project, taking place at Abram Rassi Square in front of HGG, offers a range of services from 7:30 am to 12:00 pm. The event coincides with the upcoming National Day of Obesity Prevention, observed on October 11th.
Obesity is a growing global health crisis, and Brazil is substantially impacted. According to the World Obesity Atlas 2025, approximately 31% of the adult Brazilian population-roughly one in three people-is obese. This alarming rate contributes to a higher incidence of serious conditions like diabetes, cancer, cardiovascular and respiratory diseases. The HGG’s initiative aims to address this issue head-on by providing accessible information and preventative care.
Attendees can receive free blood pressure and glucose measurements, guidance on the link between obesity and chronic non-communicable diseases, advice on healthy eating and swallowing habits, and information on the importance of physical activity and distinguishing between emotional and physical hunger.
The World Health Association (WHO) estimates that by 2025, 2.3 billion adults worldwide will be overweight, with 700 million classified as obese – defined as having a body mass index (BMI) over 30.
