Hazel Brugger & Sandra Studer: Behind the Scenes of Eurovision

Hazel Brugger’s fascination wiht the technical aspects of television production, particularly cables, lighting, and processes, was evident during rehearsals. She humorously likened her approach to a father declaring, “I have a cord and a country hunter – now we’re doing an ESC.” Brugger expressed frustration at being denied access to SRF transmission vehicles during live shows. This made her eventual permission to join the “Donnschtig-Jass” in the “Holy Car” a significant moment, eliciting an excited “How cool, I love it” as she entered the heart of SRF’s production.

Amidst Swiss summer rain, the two ESC legends revisited their hit song “Made in Switzerland,” reflecting on the special nature of their shared experience.

Their connection appears to extend beyond professional collaboration. Brugger admitted to missing Sandra Studer “really physically” at times, describing the “Donnschtig-Jass” as “the best therapy.” Studer fondly recalled their initial meeting, noting Brugger’s unadorned appearance in a casual jacket and glasses. “I took her to my heart in the first second,” Studer stated, recognizing Brugger’s understated yet highly bright nature. Studer also humorously acknowledged the need to dress warmly when moderating alongside Brugger.

Their working relationship evolved into more than just good cooperation, with Brugger referring to Studer as her mentor and playfully referencing withdrawal symptoms from their ESC collaboration.
