Harvey to Open Tokyo Office in 2027 to Expand Legal AI Presence in Japan

October 19, 2026 Lucas Fernandez – World Editor World

Legal technology provider Harvey will open an office in Tokyo in early 2027 to expand its support for law firms and in-house legal teams in Japan. Having a team in Japan will help us better understand the needs of legal professionals in Japan and make their experience central to how we build and grow here, the company stated.

Early 2027 Tokyo Office Opening and Market Expansion

The upcoming Tokyo location will expand Harvey’s presence across the Asia-Pacific region, joining existing teams in Sydney, Singapore, and Bengaluru. Globally, the platform serves more than 3,500 customers across over 85 countries, according to company disclosures. Winston Weinberg, Harvey’s chief executive officer, stated that Japan represents a critical legal market home to exceptional law firms and companies. Weinberg noted that government investments in country-wide artificial intelligence acceleration make the expansion timely. A local team will allow the company to better understand Japanese legal professionals and center their experiences around product development.

Deepening Ties with Major Japanese Law Firms and Corporations

The Tokyo branch aims to strengthen relationships with prominent domestic clients and institutions. Target organizations include major law firms Mori Hamada & Matsumoto and Nagashima Ohno & Tsunematsu, alongside corporate legal teams such as Mitsubishi Corporation. Koji Toshima, partner and chief financial officer at Mori Hamada & Matsumoto, said the office opening shows the firm's commitment to the Japanese market. Toshima noted that his firm has worked closely with Harvey since establishing a partnership in 2024 to explore how artificial intelligence can enhance the quality and efficiency of legal services. Building on our collaboration to date, including our recent support in bringing about the partnership between Harvey and Legalscape, we look forward to further strengthening our collaboration with Harvey to advance the development of innovative AI solutions tailored to the needs of Japanese legal practice and deliver even greater value to our clients in Japan and around the world, Toshima added.

Harvey Partners with Legalscape for Japanese Legal Research

Product development efforts focus on improving support for Japanese language workflows and local legal practices. Harvey maintains a strategic partnership with Legalscape for Japanese legal research, a collaboration supported by Mori Hamada & Matsumoto. Working alongside local experts and gathering direct customer feedback will guide software adaptation for the jurisdiction.
