Harry Styles Tour Documentary Directed by John Wilson in the Works
Filmmaker John Wilson is directing a documentary capturing Harry Styles and his record-setting thirty-night residency at Madison Square Garden.
Filming the New York Residency
Universal Pictures Content Group, Peanut World Pictures, and Styles are producing the project, with Universal holding worldwide rights. Production has been underway at the New York City venue since August, according to Variety. The documentary combines concert footage with a look behind the scenes, following both the production crew and attending fans.
The Madison Square Garden run represents the largest single-engagement run in the venue’s history. It began on August 26 and is scheduled to conclude on October 31. The residency supports Styles’ fourth studio album, Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally, released in March.
The New York shows have already yielded notable moments for concertgoers. On the second anniversary of Liam Payne’s death, Styles debuted an unreleased song titled “What Is Enough” during his performance at the arena.
From Television Series to Concert Films
The upcoming project marks John Wilson’s first artist documentary. He is best known for creating and hosting the acclaimed HBO documentary series How To with John Wilson and recently directed The History of Concrete.
Wilson has previous experience directing music videos. Last year, he directed the video for Bon Iver’s “Everything Is Peaceful Love” from the album SABLE, fABLE.
Universal Pictures Content Group is considering a theatrical release for the documentary, though distribution arrangements remain unfinalized and no release date has been announced.
