Harry Potter HBO Series: First Look at Hogwarts Revealed | Variety

March 24, 2026 Julia Evans – Entertainment Editor Entertainment

A first look at the upcoming HBO series adaptation of “Harry Potter” has been unveiled, showcasing a photograph posted on the show’s official Instagram page. The image depicts actor Dominic McLaughlin, who plays Harry Potter, walking towards a Quidditch pitch while wearing a red and gold cloak signifying Gryffindor House.

The cloak features Harry’s last name and player number, indicating his role on the Quidditch team. In the background, a large group of students are seen entering the pitch, with flags representing Gryffindor and Hufflepuff houses visible.

The series’ visual aesthetic is being led by production designer Mara LePere-Schloop, whose previous perform includes “Interview With the Vampire” and “Pachinko.”

Currently in production at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in the U.K., the series boasts a cast including Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape and Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid.

The adaptation is being spearheaded by showrunner Francesca Gardiner and director Mark Mylod. J.K. Rowling, Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts of Brontë Film and TV, and David Heyman of Heyday Films are serving as executive producers.

Gryffindor House, as depicted in the image and central to the story, is known for valuing courage, chivalry, and nerve, according to the Harry Potter Lexicon. Founded by Godric Gryffindor, the house’s emblematic animal is the lion, and its colors are scarlet and gold. The Gryffindor common room is located in Gryffindor Tower, accessible through a portrait of the Fat Lady, and requires a password for entry.

Minerva McGonagall, portrayed by Janet McTeer in the series, served as the Head of Gryffindor House during Harry Potter’s time at Hogwarts. The house ghost is Sir Nicholas de Mimsy-Porpington, also known as Nearly Headless Nick.

The series will follow Harry’s journey as he discovers his magical abilities, leaves his non-magical family, and begins his education at Hogwarts, forming friendships with Ron and Hermione while confronting Lord Voldemort.
