Harrison Ford: Bio, Movies & Hollywood Legend

Harrison Ford, the celebrated American actor, turned 83 on July 13, 2024. His career, spanning nearly six decades, has cemented his status as a cinematic icon and one of the highest-grossing actors globally.

Ford first gained prominence with roles in American Graffiti (1973) and The Conversation (1974), but achieved international stardom as Han Solo in the 1977 film Star Wars. He subsequently reprised the role in five additional films within the franchise over the following four decades.

Beyond Star Wars, Ford is widely recognized for his portrayal of Indiana Jones, beginning with Raiders of the Lost Ark in 1981 and continuing through 2023. He has too starred as Rick Deckard in the Blade Runner films (1982–2017), and as Jack Ryan in Patriot Games (1992) and Clear and Present Danger (1994). More recently, he appeared as Thaddeus Ross in the 2025 Marvel Cinematic Universe film, Captain America: Brave New World.

Ford’s contributions to the film industry have been acknowledged with numerous accolades, including nominations for an Academy Award, a British Academy Film Award, an Emmy Award, five Golden Globe Awards, and two Screen Actors Guild Awards. He received the AFI Life Achievement Award, the Cecil B. DeMille Award, an Honorary César, an Honorary Palme d’Or, and the SAG-AFTRA Life Achievement Award. In 2024, he was honored as a Disney Legend.

Since 1991, Ford has also served as Vice Chair of Conservation International, dedicating his time to environmental advocacy. He is a long-time Democrat.

Ford has been married three times: to Mary Marquardt from 1964 to 1979, Melissa Mathison from 1983 to 2004, and currently to Calista Flockhart, whom he married in 2010. He has five children.
