Harris Dickinson Juggles Directorial Debut, Lennon Role, and Bond Speculation
rising actor Harris Dickinson has swiftly transitioned to filmmaking with his directorial debut, Urchin, while simultaneously preparing to portray John Lennon in an upcoming biopic and navigating persistent rumors linking him to the role of James Bond.Dickinson, known for roles in Beach Rats and Triangle of Sadness, spoke about the challenges and rewards of directing, his approach to embodying a musical icon, and the ongoing speculation surrounding the 007 franchise.
Dickinson’s foray into directing stemmed from a desire for creative control and a more immersive experience. He explained, “[It’s] inevitably longer, but I think that’s what you wont as an actor. you wanna be able to spend a good amount of time on something and get a good possibility to really invest in it properly. That’s kind of the dream.” He unexpectedly took on a small acting role within Urchin as Nathan, a freind of the protagonist, after the originally cast actor withdrew due to personal reasons. Despite enjoying the experience, he doesn’t foresee regularly directing and starring in his own films, acknowledging the talent of filmmakers like Fassbinder, Cassavetes, and Bradley Cooper while stating, “I just don’t no if I’ve got it in me to do that.”
Looking ahead, Dickinson intends to carry the tonal balance of humor, drama, and high stakes demonstrated in Urchin into future projects, though he remains open regarding genre. He is currently preparing to play John Lennon in an as-yet-untitled biopic, alongside Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney, Barry Keoghan as George Harrison, and Joseph Quinn as Ringo Starr.
Balancing directing with his acting career, Dickinson revealed a list of filmmakers he hopes to collaborate with, including Julia Ducornau (Titanium), Justine Triet (The Anatomy of a Fall), Lynne Ramsey (Die My Love), and Paul Thomas anderson (One Battle After Another).
Alongside these projects, Dickinson continues to address the recurring speculation about him perhaps becoming the next James Bond. While he has not directly commented on the Bond rumors, his rising profile and established presence in action and dramatic roles have fueled the conversation among fans and industry observers. Dickinson believes that if he continues to build on the promise shown with Urchin, “it probably won’t be too long until other actors are adding [his] name to their own lists.”
