Hannover 96 vs Dynamo Dresden: Pursuing Bundesliga Return | 2. Bundesliga

February 20, 2026 Emma Walker – News Editor News

Hannover 96 aims to extend their winning streak to five matches in the 2. Bundesliga when they host Dynamo Dresden on Sunday at Heinz-von-Heiden-Arena (12:30 UTC). A victory would further solidify Hannover’s position in the promotion race, fueling growing optimism among supporters.

The club’s recent form marks their longest consecutive winning run in nearly 25 years, harking back to the 2001/02 season when Ralf Rangnick led the team to a return to the Bundesliga. Currently, Hannover boasts twelve wins from 22 matches, a record last achieved during the 2016/17 season – another campaign that culminated in promotion to the top flight.

Despite their strong performance, Hannover coach Christian Titz cautioned against complacency, acknowledging the challenge posed by Dresden. “Dynamo Dresden will throw everything into it,” Titz stated, anticipating a highly motivated opponent battling to escape the relegation zone. He expects a “very running and fighting” team that has demonstrated “very stable” play and a “clear structure” in recent matches.

Dresden, having secured eight points from their last five games, has the opportunity to climb out of the relegation places with an away win – a feat they haven’t achieved since the end of November. The previous encounter between the two sides, held in Dresden in September, ended in a 2-2 draw, with Dynamo scoring twice even as playing with ten men, a result that halted Hannover’s strong start to the season.

Hannover’s recent 3-2 victory against Hertha BSC saw the team cover a combined 128.9 kilometers, their highest distance recorded since such data began being tracked. Titz is expected to maintain a similar starting lineup to the one that has delivered recent successes, with Benjamin Källman, the league’s leading scorer with 13 goals, spearheading the attack. Winter signing Noah Weißhaupt also found the net in that match, adding further attacking options.

However, Hannover’s recent wins have been narrow, with a one-goal margin separating them from defeat in three of their four victories. This suggests a need for greater efficiency in converting scoring opportunities to avoid repeating the outcome of the reverse fixture against Dresden.

Possible starting lineups are as follows: Hannover: Noll – Okon, Tomiak, Ghita – Leopold – Neubauer, Oudenne – Aseko Nkili – Yokota, Saad – Källman. Dresden: Schreiber – Sterner, Keller, F. Müller, Rossipal – R. Wagner, Amoako – Ceka, N. Hauptmann, Lemmer – Vermeij.

Both Hannover and Werder Bremen have been fined for pyrotechnic violations, with Hannover facing a penalty exceeding 200,000 euros.
