Racing bulls’ Hager Prefers Cracked Trophy: “It’s History, It Smells Like Champagne!”
Zandvoort, Netherlands – August 31, 2025 – Isaac Hager of racing Bulls has requested the return of his broken third-place trophy from the Dutch Grand Prix, dismissing the prospect of a replacement as insignificant. The trophy, a customary Dutch delft ceramic handcrafted by Royal Delft for nearly 400 years, split in half during celebrations following the 15th round of the 2025 Formula 1 season.
While Dutch Grand Prix organizers are preparing replacement trophies, Hager emphatically stated, “To be honest, I don’t even know where the trophies are. A broken trophy.” He added, “I think the team is taking care of it, but I don’t know what’s going on with both of the cracked pieces.” Royal Delft has confirmed the broken trophy will be returned to Hager.
“I know I’ll get new ones, but what I want is a broken one,” Hager explained ahead of the Italian Grand Prix. “It doesn’t matter what new ones are. It’s not part of the history of the Grand Prix.it doesn’t smell like champagne. I want people who actually got on the podium with me, or those who broke it!”
Hager’s first F1 podium finish came after the retirement of McLaren’s Lando norris, placing him behind reigning champion Oscar Piastri and second-placed max Verstappen. Though, the driver emphasized that the achievement itself was secondary to the journey.
“Yes, that was what made me the most happy,” Hager recalled. “It was just a victory for me to just beat Ferrari and Mercedes with pure speed and finish in fourth place. So the podium was a ‘cherry on the cake’.”
Despite a power unit issue preventing him from participating in FP2, Hager’s qualifying performance – defeating the championship-leading drivers – and his strong race pace were key to the team’s overall result. “But the most important thing is that we rebuild from Friday to Saturday. That’s what I remember.”
The incident highlights the unique significance drivers place on tangible mementos of their accomplishments, particularly those tied to specific, memorable races. The broken Delft ceramic, for Hager, represents more then just a trophy; it embodies the struggle, the victory, and the unique atmosphere of the 2025 Dutch Grand Prix.Special feature on F1 Italian Grand prix
