Gwangmyeong Youth Center Launches ‘Oreum Pick’ Sports Program for Teens

March 22, 2026 Alex Carter - Sports Editor Sport

Gwangmyeong City’s Youth Foundation successfully launched its “Oreum Pick Olympic” program on March 22, 2026, at the Oreum Youth Activity Center, offering a range of indoor health and sports activities for local teenagers.

The opening ceremony, designed to introduce the center and its offerings to young people ahead of the new semester, featured an “Olympic”-themed event including a sports quiz and group gymnastics. Participants engaged in activities such as yoga, a traditional Korean game called Hangung, and basketball, with medals awarded to all who took part, according to a report from news outlet NewsHu.

The Gwangmyeong City Youth Foundation, established to support the healthy development of youth in the city, operates eleven affiliated centers offering specialized programs in areas including media, arts, after-school care, sports, science, character education, and environmental awareness, according to a report from June 26, 2025. The Oreum Youth Activity Center is located in Gwangmyeong 1-dong.

One participant quoted in the NewsHu report described the program as “different and beneficial,” highlighting the opportunity to experience activities like Hangung and yoga, which are not typically accessible. The Oreum Youth Activity Center plans to continue offering a variety of health and sports programs to support youth development.

Kim Je-deok, a South Korean archer and three-time Olympic gold medalist, was born in Seoul on April 12, 2004. While not directly involved in the Oreum Pick Olympic program, his success as a young athlete underscores the city’s investment in youth sports.

Further information about the Oreum Youth Activity Center and its programs can be obtained by contacting the center directly.
