Guy Fieri Details Gruesome Quad muscle Injury,Forced to Direct New Show From Wheelchair
Celebrity chef Guy Fieri,57,recently underwent surgery for a severe quad muscle injury sustained while filming a new show, leaving him temporarily in a wheelchair. The incident occured mid-production, requiring the team to adjust filming techniques to accommodate his recovery.
Fieri described the injury as an “explosion” in the center of his quad muscle,a particularly unusual occurrence. “You normally tear that muscle at your tendon or the tendon tears off the bone,” he explained to an outlet, “but this was right in the center of the whole quad muscle and it exploded.” The chef faces an eight-week period of limited mobility, followed by a cast and rehabilitation. Despite the setback, Fieri intends to “quarterback” Thanksgiving dinner from his wheelchair, directing his sons, Ryder, 19, and Hunter, 29, and a nephew in the kitchen.
The injury happened while Fieri was “right in the middle of filming” a new show with a large production team-125 people and numerous chefs-already assembled. He detailed the logistical challenge, stating,”We’ve got everybody in town and all the chefs there…and I’m in surgery.”
Fieri rose to prominence after winning Next Food Network Star in 2006, launching a culinary empire that includes Guy’s Big Bite and numerous other Food Network series, cookbooks, restaurants, and a line of flavortown-branded cookware.
