A wave of support swept through the Côtes-d’Armor region this October, culminating in a €400 donation to the local Cancer League, fueled by community spirit and proactive health awareness.
A heartfelt Donation Following a Vibrant Flashmob
“Your commitment to us is extraordinary,” remarked Thierry Amicel, president of the Côtes-d’Armor Cancer League, words that deeply resonated with hospital staff and residents present at a recent event. The sentiment followed an energetic, all-pink flashmob, promptly followed by the presentation of a check for €400.
Residents and Professionals Unite in Fundraising Efforts
The donation represents the culmination of widespread community mobilization throughout October and beyond. Residents of a local nursing home, with support from the Hortimon and La vie qu’on t’aime associations, meticulously crafted nearly 300 crocheted pink hearts. these were then sold within the hospital, adding significantly to the fundraising total.
further contributions came from an orienteering race organized for hospital professionals, demonstrating a collective commitment to the cause.
Prioritizing Prevention Alongside Support and Research
“It’s true that they are extraordinary, all these people who mobilized,” Amicel continued. Though, the initiatives extended beyond fundraising. Maud Pouliquen, head of communications at the hospital, emphasized the importance of prevention, stating, “But the most important thing is also to have been able to carry out prevention during these events.”
Practical workshops were held, including breast self-examination demonstrations using busts, facts sessions on physical activities suitable for individuals affected by breast cancer, and a visit from the mobile medical unit (medicobus) to callac.
Pink October Funds Fuel Essential Services
The funds raised during Pink October will directly support the Côtes-d’Armor cancer League’s core objectives: prevention, patient support, and research. The League stresses the importance of maintaining free access to screening services, stating, “It must remain free for everyone and your donations contribute to this.”
The League currently relies on the dedication of 70 volunteers and provides support to approximately 600 individuals each year.
“Your commitment to us is extraordinary.”
