Guillaume Canet Film Karma Draws 62,000 Admissions
Guillaume Canet and Marion Cotillard’s new thriller Karma drew 40,000 spectators on its opening Wednesday in French cinemas, edging out the animated feature L’Île des souvenirs. The launch brings the total to 62,000 admissions when factoring in preview screenings ahead of the film’s regular theatrical release.
Karma Matches Early Ticket Sales of Anatomie D'une Chute
The strong opening for Karma places the restricted-audience drama close to the trajectory of Justine Triet’s Palme d’or winner Anatomie d’une chute, which pulled in 47,000 ticket sales on its first day in 2023, reaching 53,000 with previews included. Karma is rated restricted for audiences under 12, following its out-of-competition screening at the Cannes Film Festival in May.

Competition at the box office remained intense during the school holiday period. L’Île des souvenirs followed closely with 38,000 tickets sold on Wednesday, while Shaun le Mouton : La Bêêête d’Halloween secured third place with 33,000 admissions. Further down the rankings, the DC release Clayface generated 26,000 entries, Eric Judor’s Le Roi du game recorded 12,000, and La Gradiva drew 10,000 moviegoers while maintaining a high average of spectators per copy.
La Gradiva Succeeds While Klara Et Le Soleil Struggles
Distributed by Tandem, La Gradiva capitalized on its Grand Prix win at the Cannes Critics’ Week, strong reviews, and 8,000 preview admissions. Six new releases cleared the 10,000-ticket mark on Wednesday, a threshold crossed only eight times since 2020. Evening curfew measures in select major city centers created disruptions for some downtown cinemas during the launch window.

At the opposite end of the chart, Taika Waititi’s Klara et le soleil, starring Jenna Ortega, landed at number 10 with 395 admissions. The French release of the film occurred without prior press screenings.
