Guardians Clinch Season Series Against Athletics with Dominant Performance
Cleveland, OH – The Cleveland Guardians have secured the season series against the Oakland athletics for the fourth consecutive year, extending their recent dominance over the A’s to 21 wins in their last 26 matchups. The Guardians’ consistent performance, particularly as the All-Star break, has been a key factor in their success.
Manager Stephen Vogt highlighted the team’s approach, emphasizing a seamless transition back into play after the break. “It’s what we try to do, keep winning series and see what happens,” Vogt stated. “You pick up right where you left off and you hit the ground running. You don’t need to change anything. You don’t remind them of anything. it’s: ‘We’re back, like we never left.'”
A significant contributor to the Guardians’ offensive surge has been the improved performance of a switch-hitter, whose last 14 hits as July 6 have resulted in extra-base hits. Vogt noted the player’s dedication, saying, “He’s been working, he’s going to continue to work, he wants to be great. The defence he’s been playing in center field, second base, you name it, he’s a player.”
The Athletics managed to score single runs in the fifth and eighth innings. In the fifth, Soderstrom singled and later scored on a wild pitch. The eighth-inning run came from denzel Clarke, who doubled and was driven in by Nick Kurtz’s RBI double off reliever cade Smith.
The loss fell to Athletics pitcher Springs (8-7), who surrendered five runs on nine hits over four innings, striking out four batters.
