GTA 6 Price Revealed: Fans React to Cost Window
Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of Rockstar Games, has indicated the anticipated price for Grand Theft Auto VI will likely fall between $70 and $80, according to statements made during a video interview with The Game Business on Tuesday.
Zelnick’s comments came while discussing the potential for in-game advertising within the title, a concept he dismissed as potentially unfair given the expected price point. “It’s very difficult for me to believe that [Rockstar Games] would want to have interstitial advertising in a game that someone paid 70 or 80 bucks for; that would seem unfair,” he said.
The potential price range represents a significant increase over the $59.99 price tag of Grand Theft Auto V when it was released in 2013. The confirmation of a price window has sparked debate among fans, with some arguing the cost is justified given the scale and anticipated content of the game, while others express concern about a potential shift in industry pricing standards.
Online discussions, particularly on Reddit and X (formerly Twitter), reveal a divided fanbase. Some users pointed to the increasing costs of game development and the value offered by lengthy, content-rich titles like Grand Theft Auto as justification for the higher price. One Reddit user, f1uke55l, suggested the game could offer the best value for money in entertainment, given the potential hours of gameplay. Others echoed concerns that a higher price for GTA VI could normalize increased pricing across the industry, as noted in a post on the r/PlayersAlliance subreddit from February 2026.
The debate also centers on the impact of inflation. A user on Reddit, zedanger, noted that the purchasing power of $50 in the 1980s and 90s was considerably higher than it is today, while another user, ClassroomMother8062, pointed out that The Legend of Zelda II cost $49.99 in 1986, which adjusted for inflation, is equivalent to around $150 today.
Prior to Zelnick’s statement, speculation about the price of Grand Theft Auto VI had ranged widely, with some predictions reaching as high as $100. The narrowing of the price range to $70-$80 has been largely welcomed by fans, according to a report from Screen Rant, though some caution that the final price remains subject to change.
Take-Two Interactive has not yet issued a formal statement confirming the final retail price of Grand Theft Auto VI, and Rockstar Games has remained silent on the matter.
