Santos Laguna President Alejandro Irarragorri acquitted in Tax Fraud Case

Alejandro Irarragorri, president of Grupo Orlegi and owner of Santos Laguna, has⁢ been acquitted of tax fraud‍ charges brought forth ‌by Mexico’s Tax Administration Service (SAT), teh club announced ‌today. A court steadfast there ⁢was insufficient evidence to link Irarragorri to⁤ the alleged crime.

The case, originating from an investigation into a 2017 payment of 54,022,690 pesos intended for player and ⁢coaching ‍staff salaries at Santos Laguna,⁤ was⁣ dismissed after Irarragorri’s‌ defense presented evidence to Judge ⁢Ruby Celia Castellanos Barrasa. ⁤The Attorney General’s Office had initially received a non-binding order ⁣for a criminal process‍ at the request of the SAT. ⁣

“The head of the court determined ⁣not to link him to the process, considering that there are no ⁤objective elements that prove‌ the existence of the act with the appearance of a crime or the alleged‍ participation attributed‌ to him,” Santos ‌Laguna stated in a press release. “in this way, the businessman was acquitted and the accusation formulated within this criminal case was ⁤put to an end.”

Grupo Orlegi and Irarragorri maintained their⁣ belief in resolving the matter through legal⁣ channels and ‌the rule ⁢of law. The acquittal comes after⁤ Irarragorri appointed Alejandro Iraragorri Kalb as the new president ‌of ⁤Santos Laguna in October 2024, replacing Dante Elizalde.
