growth Energy Applauds New US Trade Agreements with Southeast Asian Nations
WASHINGTON, D.C. – In a move hailed by the biofuel industry, the U.S. has forged new trade agreements with malaysia, Cambodia, Vietnam, and Thailand, opening perhaps important export opportunities for American ethanol. The announcement, made by U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) Jamieson Greer, was met with immediate approval from Growth Energy, the nation’s largest biofuel trade association.
The agreements represent a crucial step in expanding market access for American farmers and bolstering the renewable fuels sector. “American farmers and rural communities want and need new markets-like the ones that will be created and enhanced by these new trade agreements,” stated Growth Energy CEO Emily Skor. “Global demand for ethanol is growing, and these deals will be welcome news across the heartland.”
The timing of these agreements is especially noteworthy as global interest in sustainable energy sources continues to rise. Ethanol, produced from corn and other feedstocks, offers a cleaner-burning option to traditional gasoline and plays an increasingly critically important role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. These new trade partnerships are expected to further solidify the U.S.’s position as a leading producer and exporter of renewable fuels.
Skor further emphasized the governance’s commitment to American energy dominance, adding,”The Trump administration continues to find ways to create new opportunities for this industry while positioning American producers to make the most of them. We commend USTR for its commitment to building American energy dominance through the strength of our trade relationships.”
Looking Ahead: The Growing global Ethanol Market
Southeast Asia represents a rapidly expanding market for ethanol, driven by increasing vehicle ownership and government initiatives to promote cleaner fuels. These new trade agreements are expected to streamline export processes and reduce trade barriers, making American ethanol more competitive in the region. Beyond Southeast asia, Growth Energy actively advocates for expanded market access for American ethanol worldwide.
