Phoenix Grabs First Win in Dominant Fashion over Chicago State

GREEN BAY, Wis. – the green Bay Phoenix volleyball team secured its first win of the season with a decisive 3-0 sweep of Chicago State on Friday, outscoring the Cougars 75-33 across three sets. Green Bay dominated from the first serve, showcasing a powerful offense and aggressive serving game.The victory marks the start of a promising weekend for the Phoenix, who are looking to build momentum early in the season.This is Head Coach Josie Herbst‘s team’s first win after a challenging start, and sets the stage for a Sunday matchup against UC Davis in Madison. The team’s strong performance highlights their potential in the Horizon League and beyond.

Green Bay controlled the first set, winning 25-14 after leading by as many as 12 points. The Phoenix registered 15 kills and four aces in the opening frame. They continued their dominance in the second set, taking a 25-9 victory and never trailing. Green Bay hit an extraordinary .423 in the set. The third set followed a similar pattern, ending in a 25-10 win for the Phoenix, fueled by another four aces and a 15-point lead at the close.

Kennedy Schmitz led the Phoenix with a match-high three aces. Green Bay’s overall hitting percentage of .398 substantially outpaced Chicago State’s -.053.
