Latvian national team player Grazulis is expected to be sidelined for at least four to five months due to a foot injury sustained during Saturday’s match against Serbia, a game Latvia lost 80-84. The injury forced grazulis to leave the game after only two minutes of play.
The severity of the injury will require surgery, with Grazulis consulting with surgeons to determine the optimal location for the procedure, according to team sources. Prior to the injury, Grazulis had contributed seven points in each of the first two games, along with five rebounds in the opening match.
Despite the setback with Grazulis, Latvia has already secured a spot in the elimination tournament alongside Turkey and Serbia, both of whom boast undefeated records in the European Championship Finals. Latvia has two wins in the tournament. Estonia and Portugal each have one victory, while the Czech Republic, Latvia’s next opponent on Wednesday, has lost all four of its matches and is no longer eligible for semi-final contention.
The European Championship Finals feature 24 teams competing across four groups in Riga, Tampere, Katowice, and Limassol throughout late August and early September. The top four teams from each group will advance to the playoffs in Riga to determine the medal winners.
