The 9R01 movement represented the first major mechanical evolution of Grand Seiko’s proprietary Spring Drive technology, arriving nearly two decades after the system reached the market. The high-end Japanese manufacturer designed the manual-wind calibre to target precision directly at the mechanism’s core regulation phase.

Encased in the model designated SGBD001, the movement prioritized traditional aesthetic appeal alongside structural craftsmanship and extensive finishing. The watch launched under Grand Seiko’s characteristically austere nomenclature, emphasizing internal engineering and finishing standards developed by the brand.
