Doctoral Candidate Processional and Hooding

Doctoral candidates will be guided to the stage in a specific order. Prior to the announcement of doctoral candidates, attendees will be instructed to rise and form a line for progression to the stage.

As the individual ahead begins their ascent up the ramp, candidates should advance to a designated tape marker situated at the ramp’s midpoint, preparing for their entrance onto the stage.

Upon hearing their name called, each candidate will walk to the centre of the stage accompanied by their dissertation chair.

Candidates are to turn their backs to their dissertation chair and remove their academic cap during this moment.

The dissertation chair will then place the doctoral hood over the candidate’s head. Following this, candidates should replace their cap, turn to face their dissertation chair, and engage in a handshake.

Proceeding across the stage, candidates will shake hands with officials using their right hand and pause for a commemorative photograph.

After crossing the stage, candidates will exit and move to the rear of the stage area for a graduation portrait. Staff members will direct candidates back to the floor, around to the rear of the seating area, and down the central aisle to their original seats. It is indeed imperative that candidates remain in their seats until the conclusion of the ceremony.

Recessional

A formal recessional will take place. Candidates are to await the official dismissal and then follow the person in front of them. The entire ceremony is anticipated to conclude within a two-hour timeframe.
