Jakarta,Indonesia – The Indonesian government and the House of Representatives (DPR) are in full agreement regarding the Asset Forfeiture bill, according to Minister of Law and Human Rights Supratman Andi Agtas. The bill has transitioned from a government-led initiative to one spearheaded by the DPR.
“So, let’s have a little more patience on the bill. The political commitment is already there,” Agtas stated during a press conference monday.
He expressed optimism that deliberations will accelerate now that the DPR is taking the lead, noting the government has finalized the draft and is prepared to move forward.Agtas also confirmed the government has no objections to discussing the Asset forfeiture Bill after the completion of the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP) Bill, which is nearing a final decision.
The DPR’s Legislative Body (Baleg) has proposed prioritizing three bills this year, including the Asset Forfeiture Bill, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Bill, and the Industrial Zone Bill. The government supports the DPR’s inclusion of these bills in the 2025 Priority National Legislation Program (Prolegnas).
DPR legislative Body Chair Bob Hasan explained the Asset forfeiture Bill was initially a government proposal within the 2024-2029 Medium-Term Prolegnas before becoming a DPR initiative.
