Governor Abbott Awards $7.7M in Veteran Grants to San Antonio, Texas Organizations

AUSTIN,⁣ TX –Governor Greg Abbott today announced over $7.7 million in grants awarded to veteran service organizations in South-Central Texas, including the San⁢ Antonio ​area. The funding,distributed through the Texas Veterans Commission (TVC),will support critical services for nearly 40,000 veterans,their dependents,adn ⁤surviving spouses ​across the state.

This latest round of grants⁤ is part of a record-breaking $46.3 million investment​ in⁣ over 200 grants awarded to 175 ‍organizations statewide.​ Since 2009, the FVA programme⁢ has⁤ awarded more than $359 ⁢million through ⁤over 1,600 grants, demonstrating⁢ a sustained commitment to supporting‌ those‍ who have served. The grants cover a broad spectrum of needs, from emergency financial assistance ‌and transportation to legal services,⁣ family support, and housing assistance.Several organizations in the San Antonio region⁤ will receive significant funding. Family ⁤Endeavors, Inc. was awarded $450,000 for financial assistance and $500,000 for clinical counseling. Honor Veterans Now will receive $350,000 for Support Services, while Meals on Wheels San Antonio is‌ slated to receive a combined $500,000 – $300,000 for ⁢Support Services​ and $200,000 for the Housing for Texas‍ Heroes program.Additional grant recipients include Project MEND ($175,000 for support Services), san Antonio Food⁣ bank‌ ($50,000 ⁤for homeless ⁢veteran support), San Antonio Metropolitan Ministry, Inc. ⁢($125,000‌ for financial assistance), TBI Warrior Foundation ($50,000 for⁣ skill-based training support),⁢ The Salvation Army -​ San Antonio ($200,000 for financial assistance), Val Verde County​ ($50,000 for transportation services), and Operation Finally Home ​($350,000 for Housing for Texas Heroes). West ⁤texas Counseling & Guidance will also receive $500,000 for clinical counseling.

Funding for these grants is primarily generated by the ⁣Texas Lottery’s games designated ⁣for veteran support, ⁢with additional ‌contributions from vehicle registration and‌ hunting/fishing license donations.
