Government Assistance and Reintegration for Returning Middle East OFWs
Sixty-seven Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) from Qatar have been repatriated as the Philippine government expands its support systems for citizens returning from the Middle East.
The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) has allocated 8,000 training slots specifically for OFWs affected by the conflict in the Middle East. This initiative is part of a fast-tracked intervention designed to provide returning workers with immediate skills development and vocational training to facilitate their transition back into the local workforce.
These training measures coincide with a broader government effort to ramp up reintegration support for repatriates. As part of these efforts, an OFW reintegration fair was launched in Quezon City to connect returning workers with employment opportunities and government services.
The push for local reintegration comes as survey data indicates a divide in the intentions of those returning from the region. According to a survey, half of the Middle East repatriates plan to return to work abroad despite their current repatriation.
The government continues to implement these reintegration programs and fast-tracked interventions to address the needs of those displaced by the regional crisis.
