Google Translate: New AI Feature Helps You Lose Your Accent
Google Translate is preparing to introduce a new feature designed to help users improve their pronunciation of foreign words, according to a report analyzing the latest version of the app. The new mode, dubbed “Practice,” leverages artificial intelligence to provide interactive and personalized pronunciation feedback.
Currently, Google Translate allows users to hear the pronunciation of translated words via an audio icon. However, this feature offers only a static recording. The “Practice” mode aims to create a more dynamic learning experience through an AI-powered pronunciation analysis and learning system.
Android Authority examined version 10.10.37.885563132.3 of the app and discovered references to the new functionality and details about its interface, though the feature is not yet widely available to users.
A new “Practice” button will appear alongside the existing “Understand” and “Ask” options within the app. Activating the mode will lead to a screen featuring “Listen” and “Pronounce” buttons. Selecting “Pronounce” allows users to attempt speaking the translated phrase. The app then listens, analyzes, and evaluates the pronunciation, offering the opportunity to repeat the exercise for improvement.
To assist users experiencing difficulty with audio recording, the system will too display a phonetic representation of the words. The system is designed to provide immediate feedback and encourage repetition. The report indicates the function may initially be limited to specific language pairs, such as English and Spanish, though the full range of supported languages remains unclear.
