Google Pixel 10a: AI-Powered Camera Phone at $499 | Specs & Release Date
Google has launched the Pixel 10a, its latest addition to the Pixel 10 family, priced at $499. The new smartphone aims to deliver flagship-level artificial intelligence capabilities and a high-performance camera system at a more accessible price point, according to a company statement released today.
The Pixel 10a features a redesigned exterior with a completely flat back and an integrated camera bar, intended to improve portability and usability. The device will be available in Lavender, Berry, Fog, and Obsidian color options. Google emphasized a commitment to sustainability in the phone’s construction, utilizing 100% recycled aluminum for the frame and 81% recycled plastic for the back cover. Notably, the Pixel 10a incorporates recycled cobalt, copper, gold, and tungsten – a first for the A-series line.
The phone boasts a 6.3-inch Actua display, offering an 11% increase in brightness compared to its predecessor, and is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 7i for enhanced scratch and drop resistance. It similarly carries an IP68 rating, providing protection against dust and water.
Powering the Pixel 10a is Google’s custom Tensor G4 chip, paired with 8GB of RAM. This configuration provides full access to Gemini, Google’s AI assistant. Battery life is estimated to exceed 30 hours on a single charge, with an Extreme Battery Saver mode extending that to 120 hours. The device supports both fast charging and wireless charging.
Google has committed to providing seven years of OS, security, and Pixel Drop updates for the Pixel 10a, potentially extending the device’s lifespan considerably. Security features include Car Crash Detection, Crisis Alerts, and theft protection, alongside regular security updates.
The Pixel 10a’s camera system comprises a dual-rear setup: a 48MP main camera and a 13MP ultrawide lens. It also includes Macro Focus and Night Sight capabilities for detailed close-up and low-light photography. A new feature, Camera Coach, leverages Gemini models to provide real-time guidance on lighting and composition. Auto Best Take is designed to capture optimal group photos by selecting the best expression from multiple shots.
Users can also utilize Google Photos’ AI-powered editing tools to remove objects, alter backgrounds, and enhance images with simple text prompts. Video recording capabilities include 4K resolution at 30fps, optical and electronic image stabilization, Audio Magic Eraser, and Cinematic Pan.
The Pixel 10a offers full access to Gemini, including Gemini Live for conversational AI interactions. Circle to Search allows users to quickly identify and learn about anything displayed on the screen. Call Screen and Hold For Me features are also included to filter spam calls and manage hold times.
The device launches with Android 16 and Material 3 Expressive UI, featuring updated app visuals, dynamic wallpaper effects, and a modernized notification shade.
The Pixel 10a will be available for purchase online and in-stores through the Google Store, as well as retail partners including Singtel, Shopee, Metapod, iShopChangi, COURTS, Lazada, Amazon SG, Best Denki and Harvey Norman, starting March 5. It will be offered in 128GB and 256GB storage options. Google is also releasing matching Pixel 10a cases in all four colors, alongside Pixel Buds 2a in Berry and Fog colorways.
