Google Home Update: New Automations & Routine Changes (Feb 2026)
Google Home users can now delete pre-made routines, a feature added in an update released February 17, 2026, according to Google. The change addresses a long-standing user request for greater control over the automated functions within the Google Home ecosystem.
The update introduces the ability to remove default routines such as “Good morning,” “Bedtime,” and “Workday.” Previously, these routines could only be modified, not entirely eliminated. Google stated the change is intended to “give you more space to see all the custom automations you create,” and is accessible via a trash icon within the routine settings.
Alongside the deletion feature, Google has implemented a new feedback mechanism for automations. Users can now tap and hold an automation within the Google Home app to access a menu allowing them to report issues and provide detailed information about their experience. The rollout of this feedback system is currently underway.
The February 17th update also includes improvements to video clip downloads from Google Home devices. Google reports a “foundational fix” that enhances support for continuous downloads of video clips up to five minutes in length. This addresses previous issues where longer clips were interrupted or fragmented when composed of multiple event recordings. The update ensures that these longer recordings remain uninterrupted and can seamlessly combine overlapping short event clips, according to the company.
The changes come as Google continues to refine its smart home offerings. Recent reports have highlighted instances of Google Home losing functionality it previously possessed, with Google acknowledging some regressions in performance.
