Google has launched a structured training program, “Gemini Enterprise Agent Ready” (GEAR), designed to equip developers with the skills to build, test, and deploy AI agents using Google Cloud tools, particularly the Agent Development Kit (ADK). The program, housed within the Google Developer Program, offers hands-on labs, monthly credits for Google Skillboost – currently 35 per month – and pathways to earn badges demonstrating proficiency.
The initiative signals a shift in the enterprise AI landscape, as companies move beyond experimental AI deployments toward integrating agents into core operational workflows. Google’s move provides a formalized pathway for developers to leverage the capabilities of Gemini Enterprise, the company’s AI platform for businesses, which provides access to models like Gemini 3.
Currently, GEAR offers two learning paths: “Introduction to Agents” and “Develop Agents with Agent Development Kit.” The curriculum focuses on understanding the architecture and functionality of agents, integrating them with Gemini Enterprise workflows, and utilizing the ADK to implement agent-based solutions. According to Google, the program aims to empower a wider range of users, “from marketing to finance,” to create custom agents without requiring extensive coding experience.
Gemini Enterprise, launched to bring Google AI to businesses, allows secure connections to company data across platforms including Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Salesforce, SAP, and BigQuery. This connectivity is intended to provide agents with the contextual awareness needed to perform tasks relevant to specific business needs. The platform also emphasizes centralized management, security, and governance features to address enterprise compliance requirements.
Google’s broader Gemini for Google Cloud offerings provide AI-powered assistance for developers and data scientists within various Google Cloud products. Gemini Code Assist, for example, aids in code development, debugging, and optimization. Gemini in BigQuery assists with data preparation, analysis, and SQL code generation. Gemini in Looker facilitates data analysis and visualization. These tools are designed to integrate generative AI capabilities directly into existing workflows.
The launch of GEAR coincides with the availability of Google AI Pro, a subscription plan within Google One that provides access to Gemini Pro, Google’s advanced AI model. While Google One primarily focuses on cloud storage, the inclusion of Gemini Pro highlights the growing convergence of AI capabilities with existing cloud services.
