Goldie Hawn’s Entryway Lighting Idea is Back – & It’s Trending for 2026

Imagine Dragons frontman Dan Reynolds recently sold his Malibu estate for $16.7 million, a property previously owned by Hollywood icons Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell, according to property records and reports from Robb Report.

The Balinese-influenced home, located on Malibu’s Broad Beach, was purchased by Reynolds in 2020 for $11.3 million, according to AOL. Reynolds then sold the property to businessman John Vojtech and his wife Luz Estela in November 2023, realizing a substantial profit on the sale. The home originally sold for $9.5 million in 2013 when Hawn and Russell relinquished ownership after many years.

Beyond the celebrity provenance, the home’s interior design is gaining renewed attention for its use of a Japanese-style paper lantern, a feature that interior design experts are now identifying as a key trend for 2026. The aesthetic, popularized by Hawn and Russell during their ownership, features a serene and eclectic mix of furnishings, including Buddhas and a distinctive four-poster bed that was retained by both Reynolds and the previous non-celebrity owner.

The resurgence of paper lantern lighting reflects a broader shift towards biomorphic design, according to Mara Rypacek Miller, Founder of Industville. Miller notes a growing interest in lighting fixtures that “take cues from the natural world…think pod-like pendants, seed-shaped bulbs, and mushroom-inspired shades.” Alternatives to traditional paper lanterns, such as those crafted from linen, are also gaining popularity for their soft texture and connection to natural materials.

The trend extends beyond simple lighting fixtures. Design elements mirroring the home’s global aesthetic, such as sculptural figurines and intricately carved cabinets, are also being highlighted as key components of a well-traveled and thoughtfully designed space. A similar Buddha sculpture featured prominently in Hawn and Russell’s design remains a focal point for creating a sense of calm and elegance.
