Gold Price Hits All-Time High in Romania, Leu Fluctuates
Bucharest, Romania – October 17, 2025 – Gold reached an unprecedented peak in Romania today, wiht the price of a gram rising to 606.5699 lei, as reported by the National Bank of Romania (BNR). This marks the highest value in history for gold based on official BNR quotations.The increase represents a surge of 12.9059 lei, or 2.17%, from Thursday’s rate of 593.6640 lei.
The previous record was established just yesterday, October 16, 2025, when the BNR announced a reference rate of 593.6640 lei per gram of gold.
Alongside the gold surge, the Romanian leu experienced mixed performance against other major currencies. The BNR calculated the exchange rate against the euro at 5.0889 lei on Friday, a slight depreciation of 0.05 bani compared to the previous day’s rate of 5.0884 lei.
Conversely, the leu gained ground against the US dollar, quoted at 4.3489 lei – a decrease of 1.53 bani (-0.35%) from Thursday’s rate of 4.3642 lei, according to Agerpres.
The leu also depreciated against the Swiss franc, with the BNR setting the rate at 5.5096 lei, up 2.97 bani (0.54%) from the previous quote of 5.4799 lei.
These fluctuations in both gold prices and currency exchange rates reflect ongoing economic dynamics within Romania and globally.Investors and consumers alike are closely monitoring these trends.
