Gold Coast Suns beat St Kilda by 30 points at People First Stadium
St Kilda remains winless at the bottom of the AFLW ladder with a 0-7 record after dropping a 30-point match to the Gold Coast Suns at People First Stadium despite holding a 15-point lead at half-time.
Saints Squander Half-Time Lead at People First Stadium
St Kilda came out firing in the first half of Sunday’s round seven fixture, building a promising 15-point advantage by the major break. Forward Jesse Tawhiao-Wardlaw fueled the early surge, kicking four of her career-best five goals during the opening two quarters. However, the momentum evaporated after intermission as the Gold Coast Suns mounted a decisive counter-offensive.

The Suns overwhelmed St Kilda by kicking eight goals to one across the second half, including four majors in a dominant third term that reclaimed the lead. Gold Coast star Charlie Rowbottom orchestrated the comeback, posting a game-high 38 disposals. Kayo broadcast footage captured Rowbottom praising her squad’s resilience. “I’m so rapt with the girls and their fightback,” Rowbottom told Kayo. “The Saints came out really hot and I’m so happy we won the arm wrestle. We just came back to basics, came back to working for each other.”
Standout Performances and Crucial Injuries
As the Suns solidified their fifth-place standing with a 5-2 record, individual efforts shaped the contest on both sides. Dekota Baron capped off Gold Coast’s second-half surge with a gut-busting running goal in the closing stages of the match. The victory came with a physical cost for the hosts, however, as the Suns lost Annabel Kievit to a suspected knee injury during the second half.
For St Kilda, Serene Watson worked tirelessly to spark a defense under siege, leading the Saints with 25 possessions, while teammate Georgia Patrikios contributed 22 disposals. Despite these contributions, the Saints’ season-long vulnerabilities persisted. St Kilda sits alone at the foot of the ladder with the least points scored and the most points conceded through seven rounds.
