God of War Laufey: Release Date Announced for February 2027
At San Diego Comic-Con 2026, Sony Santa Monica Studios announced that God of War Laufey will officially release on February 16, 2027. Game director Cory Barlog also confirmed that the next God of War game will feature the return of Kratos, setting up a crowded release window for early next year across the entertainment landscape.
The Production Timeline and Physical Media Push
The God of War Laufey release date arrives just seven months after Sony State of Play broadcast twenty minutes of gameplay in June 2026. Because that initial footage displayed a polished state of development, industry observers anticipated a relatively swift timeline to launch. Alongside the February date, game director Cory Barlog confirmed that the title will ship with physical discs.
Expanding the Lore and the Return of Kratos
Beyond the standalone launch date, the surprise announcement shifted focus to the future of the intellectual property. Barlog confirmed that the subsequent God of War game puts players back in the boots of Kratos. According to IGN, Barlog stated, “Everything we are doing in the Faye game is a continuation of what came before and to set up and expand what comes next. Phranque has been around since the beginning. It’s interesting to see how to build this world out. Everything in the game is setting up for something so amazing.”
A Stacked Q1 2027 Release Window
The title joins a slate that includes Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, Persona 4 Revival, Fable, and Metro 2039, all slated to launch within a two-week span.
