Sony Pictures Animation Swings for the Fences with New sports Comedy “GOAT“
CULVER CITY, CA – Sony Pictures Animation, the studio behind visually groundbreaking films like Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and the action-packed KPop Demon Hunters, is diving into a new arena with its original animated feature, GOAT.The film centers on the high-stakes world of “roarball,” a full-contact sport played by animals, and promises a blend of comedy, heart, and dynamic animation.
GOAT introduces Will, a small goat with an outsized ambition: to compete in roarball, a brutal, interspecies version of rugby. Despite earning a professional spot,Will faces skepticism from teammates comprised of apex predators and powerful mammals. His persistent mantra, “Smalls can ball!” encapsulates the classic underdog story at the film’s core.
The voice cast boasts a star-studded lineup, led by Caleb McLaughlin (Stranger Things) as Will. Gabrielle Union (Being Mary Jane) voices Jett, a black leopard star player, while four-time NBA Champion Stephen Curry lends his voice and sports expertise to the character of Lenny the giraffe.Additional cast members include Nicola Coughlan, Nick Kroll, David Harbour, jenifer lewis, Aaron Pierre, Patton Oswalt, Andrew Santino, Bobby Lee, Eduardo Franco, Sherry Cola, Jelly Roll, and Jennifer Hudson.
Tyree Dillihay, known for his work on Bob’s Burgers, directs the film. Producers include Michelle Raimo Kouyate, Stephen Curry, and rodney Rothman, a writer on Spider-Verse.
GOAT is scheduled for release in cinemas worldwide on February 13, 2026.
