Saint-Juéry Residents Rally for Glioblastoma Research with Benefit Events

Saint-Juéry, France – A local couple’s battle with glioblastoma, an aggressive brain cancer increasingly impacting young adults, has spurred a wave of community support in Saint-Juéry. Ingrid Diogo is organizing a series of fundraising events this weekend to benefit medical research at the National Institute of Health and Medical Research (INSERM) and specialized laboratories, aiming to extend the promising gains made in treatment for this devastating disease.

Glioblastoma diagnoses are rising among younger individuals, with the disease capable of rapidly debilitating patients. While life expectancy a few years ago was only 4 to 6 months, recent research has extended that timeframe to years. Ingrid’s efforts, alongside her husband Arnaud, come at a critical time as medical advancements, though progressing, still fall short of providing a cure. “Imagine at 40 to having the body of a person who made a stroke, while two days before, you play football or give a conference,” illustrates the sudden and severe impact of the cancer.

This Friday, September 19th, at 6:30 p.m.in the Albaret hall, a musical evening featuring a conventional fevoulet Tarnais meal (cassoulet with beans, sausage, and duck confit) will be held. Tickets are €20 for adults and €10 for children under 10.The event will include a presentation by Gaétan Lingat, head of service at the Inserm of Toulouse-Purpan, detailing the latest medical breakthroughs in glioblastoma research. Entertainment will be provided by the Monday Jazz Band, followed by DJ Bugat.

The fundraising continues on Saturday, September 20th, with a motorcycle ride through the Tarn region, starting at 9:30 a.m. at Place Marie-Curie. participation is €5 per motorcycle, and all bikers are welcome.

Ingrid has also joined the Association Les étoiles in the sea, which provides support to families affected by cancer. “Faced with this ordeal, solidarity is a force. Together, let us offer hope to the patients and support research thanks to these actions bringing change,” she emphasized. Arnaud is currently undergoing treatment with the optume system, utilizing a headset to deliver electricity via electrodes, disrupting glioma growth.

Those interested in registering for the meal can contact Ingrid at 06 30 18 57 93. The couple, recently married in early July, hopes these events will raise awareness and vital funds for continued research into glioblastoma.
