GKS Katowice defeated Jagiellonia Białystok 3-1 on Thursday, eliminating the Białystok club from the Polish Cup quarter-finals. Bartosz Nowak scored twice,including a goal in added time,while Ilia Szkurin also found the net for Katowice.
The loss ends Jagiellonia’s run in the Polish Cup and shifts their focus to the upcoming UEFA Europa Conference League match against Rayo Vallecano on December 11th. The defeat is a setback for Jagiellonia, who were aiming for success on both domestic and European fronts. Despite a late penalty conversion by Afimico Pululu, Jagiellonia could not overcome Katowice’s lead.
Nowak opened the scoring in the first half’s added time, and Szkurin extended the advantage shortly after the restart. Pululu’s 86th-minute penalty offered a glimmer of hope, but Nowak sealed the victory with his second goal in stoppage time.
The match, played before 6076 spectators, saw yellow cards issued to Ilia Szkurin, Marcel Wędrychowski, Alan Czerwiński, Rafał Strączek, and Jesse Bosch of GKS Katowice, as well as Cezary Polak, Jesus Imaz, Oskar Pietuszewski, and Afimico pululu of Jagiellonia Białystok. Wojciech Myć of Lublin served as the match referee.
