Girl’s Behavior Raises Questions | Father’s Frustration & Deafness Concerns
Jason Faasse, a father of three daughters from Grand Rapids, Michigan, broke down in tears on CNN News Central on Tuesday, explaining his decision to vote for Kamala Harris in the upcoming election. Faasse’s emotional statement, captured on live television, resonated with viewers and quickly circulated online.
“I want my girls to grow up in a world where they are respected, where they are safe, and where they have every opportunity to succeed,” Faasse said during the interview, his voice cracking with emotion. He described his fears about the direction of the country and his desire for a future where his daughters wouldn’t face the same challenges he anticipates.
Faasse’s public declaration comes as part of a broader trend of parents, particularly fathers, publicly supporting Harris. Online, the term “girl dad” has gained traction, with some observers suggesting these voters could be a decisive force in the election. Greg Cantwell posted on X (formerly Twitter) in November 2024, stating that “girl dads” would shift the election from a close contest to a decisive win for Harris.
Simultaneously, a contrasting trend has emerged on TikTok, where daughters are posting videos documenting their intention to “cancel out” their fathers’ votes by casting their ballots for Harris. These videos often feature upbeat music and playful imagery, including references to Taylor Swift, who has become a symbol for young women in this election cycle. Gia Erichson, a 30-year-old actor in Recent York City, explained in a TikTok video that the trend “reaffirms my belief that women, especially young women, are so incredibly powerful when we all come together.” Erichson, who has previously voted in elections featuring Donald Trump, expressed her readiness for a change in leadership.
The dynamic between parents and their adult children extends beyond simply differing political views. Some individuals are experiencing strained relationships with their families due to political disagreements. One BuzzFeed Community member shared that they had to lie to their sister about their vote to avoid conflict, while another described a willingness to confront family members who hold prejudiced beliefs. A gay father with four adopted children stated he would not hesitate to develop his family “experience uncomfortable” if they did not respect his worth.
Further complicating family dynamics, some individuals report severing ties with relatives due to extreme political ideologies. One person shared that they had gone “low contact” with their father after learning he supported far-right, neo-Nazi groups with views that devalued women.
As of Wednesday, March 25, 2026, the Harris campaign has not directly responded to the “girl dad” phenomenon or the TikTok trend. The Trump campaign has also remained silent on the matter. The election remains scheduled for November.
