Heleen van Royen and Ex-Partner Facilitate girlfriend’s Pregnancy: “It Was Done Wiht The Three Of Us”
Dutch writer Heleen van Royen orchestrated a unique family-building arrangement, assisting a former girlfriend in becoming a mother using her ex-partner, ton, as a sperm donor. The story, recently highlighted in an interview, reveals a deliberate and collaborative effort too create a family outside of conventional relationships.
The idea, remarkably, originated with van Royen herself. “It was literally my idea, as she wanted an anonymous donor. She really wanted a child and she had no relationship,” van Royen explained. The girlfriend initially considered a donor from Scandinavia, but van Royen suggested Ton instead, believing he would be a suitable candidate.
Van Royen, who has two children of her own, Sam and Olivia, expressed a positive view of expanding the family. The proposal was considered overnight and ultimately accepted by all parties involved. ”The three of us did that in Portugal, not in a clinic,” van Royen stated. “She flew in every month when she was ovulating. That was really special and cool.”
Looking back, van Royen describes the experience with fondness.”It really benefits me. It’s not a sacrifice for me, because I really enjoy it.” The resulting child, Noah, has become a cherished member of the extended family.
Van Royen observes striking similarities between Noah and her own children. “When I see him, he really is Sam and Olivia’s brother. I think there are secretly some of my genes in him,” she joked, adding that both she and Noah’s mother share similar personality traits, contributing to a familiar dynamic.
